MAGNA Engineering Services Inc. is a civil engineering company with over 20 years experience! We offer services ranging from project feasibility through to final construction completion in all areas of municipal and civil engineering, including the innovative area of community broadband infrastructure. From senior project management and senior engineering services, through to GIS and CAD services.

Our mission is to provide innovative approaches to engineering and consulting services and to build effective long-term relationships with our clients with excellent services centered on meeting the specific needs and objectives of our clients and delivered in a timely and cost-effective manner.

The most important part of our business is creating an environment of sustainability for long-term growth. Jennifer Massig, P. Eng., Principal

Jennifer has 20 years of environmental/civil engineering experience in the municipal infrastructure field in both rural and urban environments across Western Canada. This has provided Jennifer with a unique perspective on how technical designs and requirements impact the municipal environment. Additionally, Jennifer aided in high level planning, policy, and engineering document review, proposal and tendering processes, and overall as technical liaison for local municipalities and the development community.

Jennifer’s most recent role, as a City of Chestermere Councillor (2013-2017 term), provided experience as the client and committee team member for leading edge municipal development plans, wetland and stormwater management planning, and major stormwater conveyance infrastructure. This role as a Municipal Councillor complemented her on the ground work as a Professional Civil Engineer where Jennifer has built her career around bringing the technical and municipal perspective to each and every project. In her role as principal with MAGNA, her primary responsibilities have been in specialized stormwater management, urban and rural land development throughout the Calgary Region, and helping Alberta communities through the innovative world of municipal broadband through planning, and stakeholder engagement workshops.


Jessica Letizia (BSc, BApp, MEDes), GIS Program Lead

Jessica has been working as a Geographic Information System (GIS) professional in the public and private sectors for over 14 years. She is an award-winning cartographer and has extensive experience providing GIS solutions to a variety of municipal and regional economic development, planning, and transportation projects throughout Alberta from data acquisition and management to mapping and analysis. Over the years, Jessica has also had the opportunity to teach GIS at SAIT, co-organize two Hackathons, implement a regional open data program, and facilitate collaboration among municipal GIS staff throughout the Calgary Region. Jessica has also recently completed her Masters of Environmental Design at the University of Calgary, her thesis topic was Using GIS as a Decision Support Tool for Food System Policy Implementation.

Jessica was MAGNA’s first employee in March 2018, and in addition to providing data acquisition and management, spatial analysis, and cartography support to a variety of projects, she has also been writing technical documents, creating internal standards and guidelines, and managing MAGNA’s website and social media content.


Lyle Thiele (CET, CST), Designer

Lyle has over 30 years of experience working in the civil municipal design industry. Lyle’s accomplishments include plan preparation and construction supervision of projects such as the multi-million-dollar Rocky View water co-op and numerous sewage collection and treatment system upgrades and designs. Lyle has also been the key designer in several new subdivisions, including the design of new, and upgrades to, existing collector roads and internal road systems for the City of Calgary and various towns and villages throughout southern Alberta, including the Towns of Olds and Didsbury.

Currently, Lyle’s work at MAGNA is primarily in the design and specialized AutoCAD application for municipal infrastructure civil projects and planning and development of residential urban and rural subdivisions, and construction management and administration.



Gideon Mentie, Civil Designer

Gideon Mentie is thrilled to be solving wastewater and stormwater problems for MAGNA’s clients. Born in Brooks (but currently living in Calgary), he loves working with communities big and small, helping them take advantage of innovative technologies. In 2019, Gideon was recognized by the Alberta Council for Global Cooperation’s “Top 30 Under 30” award. He holds a Civil Engineering Degree from the University of Calgary.

Fun Fact: During his undergrad, Gideon led projects in Ethiopia, Uganda, and Haiti!


Lisa Latimer, Office Manager

Lisa has over 13 years of experience in various administrative roles, including more than 10 years in IT telecommunications. This translates to extensive experience in internal communications, excellent customer service, fulfilling project directives efficiently and effectively, and supervising employees. 

In January 2019, Lisa joined the MAGNA team where she has been Additionally, Lisa Other responsibilities include, leadership, coordination, analytical skills and communication across all levels of the organization.

These skills have enabled her to manage deadlines, maintain an internal customer base of over 350 people, as well as undertake a multitude of projects at one time.


Neil Farries, GIS Analyst

After completing a degree in Urban & Regional Studies (GIS focus) at the University of Lethbridge and a Master’s Degree in GIS (MGIS) at the University of Calgary, Neil has spent the last 13 years working in Geographic Information Systems for municipalities and private corporations. He has a great deal of experience in a number of different projects, including GIS analysis, data management, CAD conversion and drafting, and fibre/coaxial data administration, as well as a wide variety of municipal projects including disaster management, web application development, data acquisition, and event planning.  In his spare time, Neil enjoys spending time with friends and family and trying to improve his mediocre golf game and guitar skills.


Sahil Sharma, Stormwater Engineering Program Lead

Sahil has over 5 years of civil engineering and stormwater management experience in the City of Calgary and surrounding areas. His focus is in private and municipal drainage studies, storm pond design, and staged master drainage planning. Through analysis in sewer hydraulics and surface run-off hydrology, Sahil works closely with stormwater modelling to provide solutions to small- and large-scale stormwater challenges. He leverages his passion for sustainability to introduce unique and innovative designs to today’s challenging stormwater infrastructure needs. Sahil utilizes his strong background in multi-disciplinary design and project management to effectively deliver his current projects, provide site specific solutions, and increase the overall quality of his team’s product. Sahil currently leads the Stormwater Engineering Program and is driven to collaboratively design systems for new communities, support sustainable municipal expansion, and elevate the urban stormwater management vision.

Fun Fact: Outside of work, Sahil is a struggling writer, working on his first book - Unsolicited Thoughts from an Unexpected Source: A Collection of Outlandish Opinions to Guide the Millennial Spirit Through the Modern Space.
