This ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNICIAN or ENTRY-LEVEL ENGINEER role will work under the guidance of experienced engineering professionals to gain hands-on experience, contribute to projects, and build their skills in the field of environmental engineering. This role involves applying broad theoretical job knowledge typically obtained through advanced education and may require proficiencies such as working under close supervision, solving problems that are not typically difficult or complex, and explaining facts, policies, and practices related to the job area. The emphasis for this position is on process design, design coordination and project management skills to develop water and wastewater treatment plant design activities involving a technical design team of various levels and disciplines of engineers and CAD designers. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING…

  • Participate in field surveys, inspections, or technical investigations;

  • Outdoor fieldwork in Calgary and outlying areas;

  • General civil, stormwater, and wastewater engineering analysis and design, specific to the introduction of nature-based engineering solutions;

  • Production of engineering deliverables such as technical reports, letters/memos, drawings, specifications, and construction contract drawings;

  • Project Management of small to medium sized civil engineering projects from conceptual through construction and commissioning;

  • Accountable for using task management tools to support personal task organization (i.e. Is your to-do list currently up to date?);

  • Accountable for personal time management including the use of business management tools such as timesheets, sprint boards, and other similar tools related to time/task management;

  • Responsible for providing feedback on design processes and tools; and

  • Other tasks as required.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO…

  • Diploma in Environmental Engineering program of a minimum of 2 years from an accredited institute;

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in industry or advanced education;

  • Basic understanding of stormwater management best practices and regulations;

  • Highly skilled in basic office products, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook;

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail;

  • Experience with PCSWMM, Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and/or GIS;

  • Strong project and task management capabilities alongside proven team leadership and collaboration;

  • Ability to self-manage time and tasks;

  • Has excellent written and verbal communication skills;

  • Has excellent attention to detail;

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment;

  • Willingness to learn and take on new challenges;

  • Ability to be flexible and highly adaptive in a fast-paced environment;

  • Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport, resolve conflicts, and foster a positive team culture;

  • Holds a valid Canadian driver’s license and reliable access to a car;

  • Has their (Alberta) legislated Covid-19 vaccinations up to date; and,

  • Is eligible to work in Canada.

PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO CANDIDATES WHO HAVE…

  • Construction management and/or site inspection experience;

  • Experience working in the City of Calgary and an understanding of City of Calgary drafting standards and practices;

  • Experience working on large multi-disciplinary project teams and can effectively demonstrate team leadership, accountability, and communication;

  • A strong understanding of municipal engineering best practices, processes, and standards in the Calgary Region;

  • Experience with GIS;

  • Experience working with Indigenous communities;

  • Strong project management and task management capabilities alongside proven team leadership and collaboration.
