The CONTRUCTION LEAD role will be accountable for facilitation and advocacy for the Construction (CS) team, providing leadership and support to ensure all aspects of construction projects are completed on time, within budget, meet quality standards and Health and Safety (HS) standards, while also managing a team of construction professionals. The CONTRUCTION LEAD will liaise with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers, ensuring efficient project execution and adherence to safety regulations. This role will work with the Project Management Lead to help set CS team priorities, establishing goals, and maintaining high construction services standards. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING…

  • Provide leadership and guidance to CS team members, fostering collaboration, setting clear roles and responsibilities, and ensuring effective communication.

  • Assign CS team resources, to meet project goals efficiently.

  • Keep track of construction coverage needs and coordinate with Project Delivery Manager.

  • Create, review, and implement construction services processes and tools, in coordination with other leads, as a member of the Process Accountability Team.

  • Create and implement yearly construction orientation.

  • Member of the Health and Safety Committee to review and ensure alignment between construction services practices and MAGNA’s H&S program.

  • Provide weekly reports on construction projects status, construction team engagement and training, and efficiency and safety building suggestions to PM Lead.

  • Accountable for the processes related to tracking, monitoring, and reporting on Construction Projects KPIs, including:

    • Project KPI (budget, expenses, schedule, scope) status;

    • Project H&S status;

    • Others as required.

  • Accountable for the processes related to contract management, construction kick-off, regular inspections, completion inspections, and commissioning inspections, and other standard construction services processes.

  • Accountable for the processes related to construction project workflows, including planning for new workflows, updating workflows, and regular reviews of workflows.

  • Continued learning measured by consistently collecting outside data from the industry through mentoring, training, or self-study (books, podcasts, etc.) to bring new ideas and tools back to the team.

  • Other tasks as required.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO…

  • 10+ Years of experience in relevant engineering field, or related role(s), with a proven track record of successfully implementing construction services activities and successfully leading project teams.

  • Professional engineer or CET with extensive knowledge of the engineering construction industry, including practices, trends, and regulations.

  • Familiarity with construction management tools and software, as well as industry-specific knowledge relevant to the construction projects being managed.

  • Has excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Has excellent attention to detail.

  • Has strong organization and personal time management skills.

  • Has strong technical writing and presentation skills.

  • Ability to be flexible and highly adaptive in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport, resolve conflicts, and foster a positive team culture.

  • Holds a valid Canadian driver’s license and reliable access to a car.

  • Has their (Alberta) legislated Covid-19 vaccinations up to date.

  • Is eligible to work in Canada.

PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO CANDIDATES WHO HAVE…

  • Construction management and/or site inspection experience;

  • Experience working in the City of Calgary and an understanding of City of Calgary drafting standards and practices;

  • Experience working on large multi-disciplinary project teams and can effectively demonstrate team leadership, accountability, and communication;

  • A strong understanding of municipal engineering best practices, processes, and standards in the Calgary Region;

  • Experience with GIS;

  • Experience working with Indigenous communities;

  • Strong project management and task management capabilities alongside proven team leadership and collaboration.
